National Day!

It was National Day in Singapore yesterday. After LISS, M and I hitched a ride from SL to QUT in Garden Points for the celebration. We joined many Singaporeans uni students to watch the live broadcast from the web.

When we arrived, we went to register and then we met up with LL and her friends. It was dinner first before the show started at 8pm (6pm in SG). As we were seated in the middle of the eating area, quite a number of people came and smoked near us and we had to give subtle hints to shoo them away.

The funny thing that we witnessed was an overflowing bin. It seemed to be a Singaporean thing - not to walk to another empty bin but to stack the bin till it could take in no more.

Just when the show started, M's friends came too and we managed to get seats for 9 of us. It was amazing to see people waving the Singapore flags and cheering. However, during some parts of the show, the cheering got a bit too loud and we could not hear the commentators. The broadcast did lag for a few times too.

After the broadcast was over, there was a lucky draw and I won the goodie bag from Singapore! It was a green bag and I did not quite like the colour. I tore off the cover and exchanged for a purple cover with another winner. Looks weird but better than the whole bag being green.
When it was time to leave, we had missed the last train already. M's friend dropped us off at the uni Green Bridge and we walked home from there. By the time we got home, it was almost 12am! Fortunuately, we had no early class the next day.

Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the opportunity to celebrate National Day in another country. I pray that Singapore will continue to prosper even though the economy looks gloomy. May the people in Singapore do not take peace and harmony for granted and may the younger generation appreciate what the generations before them had done for the country. Thank you for looking after us. Amen.
